Welcome to the Valley Forge Muster Roll Home page. This page is dedicated to the 30,000 plus men who served at the Valley Forge Encampment under General George Washington during the period of Dec 1777 to Jun 1778. This site provides the only known, free to the public, automated database of all of the soldiers who served at the Valley Forge Encampment. (See Disclaimer) The information found in the Valley Forge Muster Roll was collected and analyzed from official documents located at the Valley Forge National Historical Park and the National Archives and Records Administration. For information on a soldier before or after the the time of the Valley Forge encampment (December 1777, through June, 1778) please consult the following:
If you're looking for a history of the Valley Forge Encampment, see the LINKS Page. The Muster Roll allows you to access information on an individual troop encamped at Valley Forge. A search tool allows you to look for a soldier by last name or search the database by state/or regiment. Some of the records are sketchy, but all have some annotation, such as regiment and state. Please note: Most of the top officers i.e. General Washington's Staff, Division, and Brigade commanders, are not individually listed in the Muster Roll. You can find these individuals in the Biographies page.

In addition to the Muster Roll, this site contains an extensive breakdown of the Continental Army, including an organizational chart of the army as it was at Valley Forge. (Due to the size of the chart, it does take a long time to load.) This site provides the most complete, known breakdown of the Army, down to the regiment level. Acknowledgements The information on this site has lovingly been gathered and authenticated by dedicated personnel (staff and volunteers) working with the Valley Forge National Historic Park and volunteers from the Lockheed Martin Network of Volunteer Associates (NOVA), who designed the database and entered data from Park records and documentation. (See Credits). The Muster Roll project began more than 50 years ago with the ultimate goal of making this historic information freely available to the public, where it rightfully belongs. We are confident the data is as accurate and complete as possible.
In addition to the documents and records stored in the archives of the Valley Forge Historical National Park that were used for research material on this project other resources were also used on this site. Finally, credits are also included for the use of certain graphics used on this site. (References/Credits). This site is a "living document." If any family member or researcher has additional information on a soldier, it is welcomed. Our hope is that this information will assist family members and researchers in their quest for knowledge. Good luck, and happy hunting!
